Mori Lucrum means “To die is gain.” — Philippians 1:21

Mori Lucrum is inspired by Philippians 1:19–30, where Paul speaks of life and death not as opposing hopes, but as belonging to the same promise: to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

The landscape rests at the threshold between what is known and what lies beyond it. Earth and water remain dark and tangible, while the horizon seems to recede into an immense, illuminated sky. Light breaks through without fully revealing what is ahead—suggesting a hope that is certain even when it cannot yet be seen.

This painting considers the counter intuitive Christian understanding of death: not as the extinguishing of hope, but its fulfillment. There is still beauty, purpose, and work in remaining here, yet beyond the horizon is something greater—the presence of Christ Himself.

36”x48” acrylic on stretched canvas.
